Green Technology Leadership
Organic Recovery Development, LLC consists of a group of experienced development and finance professionals who have partnered with Organic Recovery, LLC, a pioneer in food residual recycling technology. Together, they will lead the commercialization of OR's environmentally beneficial food residual recycling and conversion technology.
Our goal is to solve two problems at the same time. According to the US EPA, in 2006, Americans generated 31 million tons of food waste, only 2% of which was recycled. We plan to recycle 1 million tons of food residuals per annum within five years. At the same time, chemical refineries use 33,000 cubic feet of natural gas to produce 1 ton of chemical fertilizer, the application of which pollutes our air and water. From the food residuals we recycle, we plan to produce 200 million gallons per annum of beneficial organic soil amendment, to supplement and displace petrochemical-based fertilizer. Solving two environmental problems at the same time, we will do our part to improve our environment and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Organic Recovery, LLC was founded on the concept of zero waste. Its founders have committed their lives to developing strategies and systems for returning waste, in the form of soil and atmosphere benefiting end-products, back to the earth. The primary focus of the company is to convert food waste into powerful and highly beneficial soil amendments.
Core Principles:
- Recover the resources
- Return the value
- Provide an unbroken cycle of benefit
Mission Statement:
- Organic Recovery’s mission is to develop and apply its enzymatic digestion technology to convert and sell as much food waste as possible into value-added soil amendments.
Key Components of Mission:
- To be recognized as the company people turn to for solutions in converting food waste into useful products.
- To assist in propagating sound environmental practices that will boost soil health and atmospheric quality, worldwide.
- To continually develop new profit centers focused on socially useful and environmentally friendly end products.
- To be a purveyor of technology geared toward converting waste into useful products
Concept Overview:
Organic Recovery (OR) is a spin-off from Advance Marine Technology Bio-products (AMT), a New Bedford, MA-based company which develops and markets organic, environmentally friendly products. AMT coverts waste material from seafood processing plants and creates useful agricultural, consumer, and industrial materials; like soil amendments, aquaculture feed, compost accelerants, bio-stimulants, marine oils, and nutracueticals. The primary product that is created from this process, Organic Gem®, is a fertilizer that is easy for soil microbes to eat and digest. In addition to naturally improving soil quality, by diverting waste from landfills and supplanting the use of petrochemical fertilizers, it also decreases carbon emissions.
The product that OR creates from this process is a plant food called H2H Harvest-to-Harvest,™ Liquid Food Hydrolysate. OR takes food waste and uses a similar proprietary enzymatic digestion process; turning this waste into a liquid that naturally retains the original nutrient and mineral content of the food, and puts this material back into the soil to grow more food…the unbroken cycle of benefit.
Rainbow Disposal Company, Inc
Rainbow Disposal Co., Inc. ("Rainbow") has signed a letter of intent with Organic Recovery Development, LLC ("ORD") to operate their new OR Technology processing facility being sited in the Los Angeles area, as well as other sites in the western U.S. Rainbow is a diversified disposal company that has provided services in Orange County, California for over 50 years. Rainbow’s operations include residential, commercial and industrial solid waste collection and recycling. Rainbow’s wholly owned subsidiary, Rainbow Transfer/Recycling, Inc. operates a 2,800 tpd transfer station and material recovery facility in Huntington Beach, California that is one of the premier recycling facilities in the United States. This facility includes specific processing systems for each type of waste: residential MSW, or ‘black bin’ recycling Materials Recovery Facility (“dirty MRF”); residential single source recyclables, or ‘blue bin’ recycling ("clean MRF"); commercial and multi-family MSW “dirty MRF;” construction and demolition waste; "civic amenities" waste; and "green waste." Many of the processes used at Rainbow, including the odor control systems, have been developed in-house. In June 2004, Rainbow completed the final stage if its Employee Stock Ownership Plan buy-out of the Company. Rainbow is now 100% employee owned through its ESOP.
Rainbow has been very successful in dealing with nuisance issues. The local community regards Rainbow as a good neighbor. Rainbow is located in a residential neighborhood directly across the street from an elementary school and preschool. The Rainbow facility is designed to be visually appealing from the street by use of tall trees and raised lawns facing all public views. With respect to noise issues, Rainbow strictly adheres to permit operating hours and does not perform loud operations after daytime hours. In its continuing commitment to environmental sustainability, Rainbow converted 28 trucks to CNG (compressed natural gas) and added a CNG fuel island for public and government use (schools and cities).
In 2007, Rainbow completed a significant upgrade to its existing Material Recovery Facility. The new, proprietary facility, called the "Multi-MRF", combines dirty sort lines and clean sort lines into a single system. This maximizes recycling by allowing for sorting and co-marketing of dirty sort materials with the clean sorted materials, and allows Rainbow to achieve unprecedented recycling rates – as high as 60% of waste collections. Rainbow operates a fleet of over 100 collection and transfer vehicles and has an exemplary history of operating its fleet and facilities in full compliance with regulatory authorities. Rainbow received a certificate of achievement from the California Highway Patrol for having passed the BIT inspection for the past 17 years without any notices or compliance orders.
Rainbow’s consistent track record of high achievement and efficiency, pride of employee ownership, technological leadership, reliability, and environmental stewardship are the reasons ORD has selected Rainbow to act as collection and processing agent for the ORD facilities that are within Rainbow’s geographic reach.
