The Technology

Leading Edge Technology Provided by our Strategic Partner Organic Recovery, LLC

Organic Recovery, LLC was founded on the concept of zero waste.  Its founders have committed their lives to developing strategies and systems for returning waste, in the form of soil and atmosphere benefiting end-products, back to the earth.  The primary focus of the company is to convert food waste into powerful and highly beneficial soil amendments.

Core Principles:
- Recover the resources
- Return the value
- Provide an unbroken cycle of benefit

Mission Statement:
- Organic Recovery’s mission is to develop and apply its enzymatic digestion technology to convert and sell as much food waste as possible into value-added soil amendments.

Key Components of Mission:
- To be recognized as the company people turn to for solutions in converting food waste into useful products.

- To assist in propagating sound environmental practices that will boost soil health and atmospheric quality, worldwide.

- To continually develop new profit centers focused on socially usefull and environmentally friendly end products.

- To be a purveyor of technology geared toward converting waste into useful products

Concept Overview:

Organic Recovery (OR) is a spin-off from Advance Marine Technology Bio-products (AMT), a New Bedford, MA-based company which develops and markets organic, environmentally friendly products.  AMT coverts waste material from seafood processing plants and creates useful agricultural, consumer, and industrial materials; like soil amendments, aquaculture feed, compost accelerants, bio-stimulants, marine oils, and nutracueticals.  The primary product that is created from this process, Organic Gem®, is a fertilizer that is easy for soil microbes to eat and digest.  In addition to naturally improving soil quality, by diverting waste from landfills and supplanting the use of petrochemical fertilizers, it also decreases carbon emissions.

The product that OR creates from this process is a plant food called H2H Harvest-to-Harvest,™ Liquid Food Hydrolysate.  OR takes food waste and uses a similar proprietary enzymatic digestion process; turning this waste into a liquid that naturally retains the original nutrient and mineral content of the food, and puts this material back into the soil to grow more food…the unbroken cycle of benefit.

Advanced Marine Technology (“AMT”)

The AMT digestion technology was adapted for OR’s use, and tested over the past two years to utilize a more abundant feedstock: food residuals. The outcome is Harvest-to Harvest H2Htm, a liquid organic soil amendment that will greatly expand the potential applications of natural fertilizers in diverse regional agricultural markets.

The principal developer of AMT's proprietary process is Lewis Spencer, Founder & Chairman. Together, with Co-Founder Jeff Young, the two began research into finding revenues in fish processing waste back in the early 1990's. During that time, they developed and perfected a process whereby fish cartilage was extracted from fish enzymatically. The process eliminated much of the handwork associated with processing cartilage for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical use, while simultaneously improving quality, yield and cost controls.

A byproduct of this process is liquid fish fertilizer. AMT markets this fertilizer under the brand name Organic Gem®.  Organic Gem® has been sold widely throughout the world to a growing number of large and small customers, both agricultural and consumer.

AMT of New Bedford, Massachusetts, is the sister company of Organic Recovery, LLC (“OR”). They have participated in the fertilizer industry for over 15 years using an effective and simple enzymatic digestion process to convert fish waste into a liquid organic soil amendment for multiple agricultural applications. AMT’s customers attest to the effectiveness of their product, “Organic Gem®”. It has been applied on over 100,000 acres of cropland in many states throughout the US. They cannot keep up with the demand due to the limited supply of fish waste available, even in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the largest fishing port in the continental United States.

Agricultural applications of Organic Gem® include:

  • Farming
  • Vineyards
  • Golf courses
  • Turf farms
  • Greenhouse and gardens
  • Hops
  • Nurseries

AMT’s goals include:

  • Reducing landfill waste
  • Designing and building facilities and equipment for research and production
  • Developing economical and environmentally sound technologies for converting waste into useful products

AMT's Laboratories conduct research on waste material for improving production, processing, technology, and marketing of organic products. Their Laboratories provide state-of-the-art information on a full range of issues associated with greater fish waste utilization.

AMT’s operations have been consistently profitable. AMT's New Bedford plant is a model blueprint facility for OR’s patented enzymatic digestion process. AMT’s intention is to duplicate the plant and its processes where appropriate. AMT plants can be located anywhere in the world near a suitable waste source (fish, plant, animal).

Organic Gem® provides superior . . .

Plant Health
Gives long lasting results with improvements in plant color, overall health and tremendous growth.

Soil Health
Soil qualities are improved for deeper rooting and better penetration of water and nutrients. Unproductive soil is easily rebuilt and replenished.

Microbial Activity
Promotes the growth of bacteria and other organisms as well as providing supplementary macro and micro nutrients.

Pest Resistance
Improved plant health leads to a dramatic increase in resistance to pests.

Easy To Use
Can be soil applied, foliar applied, or applied via a drip system
Can be applied universally depending on your needs. Applications of Organic Gem® will not harm roots or leaves because of the slow release of nutrients.

Will not clog
Because of our strict filtering process, there is never a problem with drip line clogging or mixing Organic Gem® with other material.

Reduces cost for other treatments
Testing at the University of Massachusetts has shown that one can decrease normal fertilizer applications by 25 - 50% using Organic Gem®.

Costs less than other brands
Our manufacturing process takes significantly less time than our competitors, resulting in lower processing costs, which we pass on to you, the customer.

A Superior Choice
Organic Gem® is the only fish based fertilizer that is a byproduct of pharmaceutical and dietary supplement processing - competitors' products are digested using either extreme heat or acid, which denature the proteins in the fish.

Contains proteins that remain in their natural state (strands), while those processed with acid or heat are left knotted and less bio-available to the plant.

Starts with material that is fresh - free from decomposition and processed daily using sanitary methods, resulting in low odor.

Better Ingredients
We use only deep water, bottom-feeding fish that contain over 40 trace minerals. These minerals are re-introduced into the soil.

Utilize resident enzymes in the fish in conjunction with a proprietary enzyme formula. Enzymes help destroy mildew.

Create a unique composting effect as the enzymes break down the nutrients locked in the soil - the way Nature intended it.

Organic and Safe
Organic Gem® is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute

  • Necessary oils and collagens are not removed during processing.
  • Excellent non-leeching capabilities as fertilizer stays locked up in the soil and hangs onto the root system.
  • Time-release effect that aids in composting ability.
  • Peace of mind that local water supplies are not being compromised.
  • Safe and long lasting
  • Can be applied with no worries to human health.
  • Shelf life of 5+ years.
  • Not affected by heat or cold.
  • Manufactured under strict FDA guidelines.

A word on our N-P-K . . .

Organic Gem's N-P-K is 3-3-.3. Do not be deceived by this. In studies at the University of Massachusetts, our product outperformed standard 10-10-.10 products. UMass has demonstrated that 80% of the nitrogen in standard fertilizers either gasses or leeches off - our material does neither due to the oils and collagens in the product which help lock it into the soil. That fact alone gives Organic Gem an equivalent nitrogen level of 15.
