Mr. Sexton has been in the banking and institutional finance industry for 30 years. Most of his career has been in the energy, renewable energy, utility and general project finance arena. Mr. Sexton launched his energy investment career at Prudential Power Funding Corporation (“PPFC”) in 1985.
During that period of time and up until his departure from Prudential in 1993, PPFC was the leading institutional debt investor in the U.S. power project finance market. PPFC invested over $4 billion dollars in over one hundred individual power projects crossing all technology applications including solar, wind, biomass, coal, natural gas, geothermal and waste to energy. Mr. Sexton was instrumental in originating and structuring many of these projects and later was the lead energy/project finance syndication professional for Prudential Asset Sales and Syndications Corporation (“PASS”). During this time period with PPFC and PASS his expertise with structuring and syndicating renewable energy projects was developed along with the building of a strong network of project development clients and a deep network of senior and subordinated debt investment partners. Over the course of his career, Mr. Sexton has originated, structured, closed and syndicated over $4 billion of senior, subordinated and equity financings.
After 30 years working for major financial institutions on the investment side of the industry, Mr. Sexton joined Renewable Energy Development and Finance, LLC (“REDF”) in September, 2008. At REDF, Mr. Sexton will utilize his energy finance expertise in the ongoing development and financing of technology R&D companies. REDF is an equity investor in Organic Recovery, LLC (“OR”) which has a technology that converts recycled food waste into a high quality soil amendment. REDF formed Organic Recovery Development, LLC (“ORD”) to license the OR technology and develop projects in numerous locations. Mr. Sexton will begin his efforts at ORD by acting as Partner for the Northeast Region of the United States.
Mr. Sexton had been a Managing Director for CIT Energy in New York from 1999 to 2008. CIT Energy is an industry investment sector within CIT Group, Inc. (“CIT”), a publicly owned financial services company. At CIT Energy he was a senior member of the energy and infrastructure project finance team where his responsibilities ranged from head of renewable energy originations to establishing and running CIT’s overall capital market and syndication unit. Since 1996, Mr. Sexton had been a Director for Newcourt Capital’s Project Finance unit, acquired by CIT in 1999. Mr. Sexton together with his colleagues from Chemical Securities was a founder of Newcourt’s New York project finance practice.
Mr. Sexton began his career at National Bank of North America in 1978. He joined Manufacturers Hanover Leasing Corporation in 1979 where he was a Regional Credit Manager until leaving for Prudential in 1985. Mr. Sexton left Prudential in 1993 when he joined Chemical Securities as a Vice
President in the Project Finance Advisory Group where he advised clients on and arranged project financings across a wide spectrum of industry sectors, including energy.
Mr. Sexton received an MBA in Finance from Pace University in 1985 and a BA in Business Administration from Rutgers College in 1977.
